Most airlines have now announced their winter schedules for 2015/16

As we approach the end of March with the longer, warmer days of spring, it’s hard for most of us to look any further ahead than this coming summer with regard to our holiday plans. However, most of the low-cost airlines have now released their schedules for the coming winter, with some routes on sale right up to March 2016.

It is generally the case that flight prices are cheapest when they first go on sale, and steadily increase until they reach their maximum shortly before the flight departure date. There are exceptions to this rule, for example the starting price for flights on peak holiday dates will always be relatively high. However, on many routes there are some excellent deals to be found for those who are able to book early, even on the most popular Friday – Monday combinations.

If you’re looking for a good city break deal during these quieter months, it’s hard to beat the popular city of Krakow. The recent publicity given to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz has led to an increase in public awareness of Poland’s second largest city and it is currently one of our most popular cities at Cities Direct. There will certainly be some excellent city break deals to be found during the winter months, even during the peak Christmas Market season, with prices from as low as £199 for a 4 night stay in a 3* hotel. There are some excellent central 3* hotels in Krakow, such as the Hotel Regent, located in the Jewish Quarter, or the Hotel Maksymilian, very well located not far from the market square right in the centre of the city.

Another city where some excellent winter deals can be found is Prague, with some great offers at hotels such as the Ibis Praha Wenceslas Square or at the charming 4* Hotel Green Garden. It is also possible for find some really good Christmas Market deals in Prague if you can book a break now.

Even the expensive city of Rome, where prices for a 3 night break can easily exceed £300 in the peak months of May and June, offers some superb deals during November to March. It’s always well worth considering a short break in this historic city when the prices are at their lowest and the crowds at their thinnest – and the flights are on sale right now.
